The Marseille Provence Greeters - MP Greeters - are voluntary workers who love their town and region and are open to other cultures. They are of all ages and horizons. During their free time (average 2 hours for each walk), they accompany tourists free of charge on a variety of unusual or more classical walks, according to individual tastes.

Each Greeter subscribes to the Association for one year, at a cost of 15 euro, and signs the Greeters Charter.

Each Greeter shares his knowledge of his town and region according to the desires of his guest veeziters (visitors). However, each walk must be "off the beaten track". The various themes proposed (history, architecture, restaurants, shopping, etc.) act as a springboard for the encounter. But its fundamental aim remains human and cultural exchange.
Greeters are not professional guides and do not compete with guided tours proposed by tourist offices or professional bodies.

This "alternative tourism" particularly targets individuals: the success of the encounter depends on the development of personal exchanges between a small number of people. It can also act as a complement to "traditional" tourism, outside the "normal" schedules of museum and monument visits, or guided tours hosted by tourist offices.

Greeters must be motivated, open, sociable, available at least four half-days during the year (4 x 2 hours), and enjoy human contact.
They may speak a foreign language (although this is not obligatory) or sign language. They must be at least 18 years old; however, they may be accompanied by minors on family walks.
To ensure Greeters are familiar with the fundamentals of his town (urban transport, main sights, etc.), they receive a "service kit", including a town and regional map, urban transport network plan, short recap on the history of the town and region and the key addresses for finding out various information.
